HBCS is hosting a distance running camp in beautiful Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas. Our camp is open to incoming 9th-12thgraders (8th graders to be considered case-by-case) and is designed to bring Louisiana distance runners together in a fun environment to wrap up your summer conditioning and get you ready for your upcoming cross country season! We will have short educational sessions with other Louisiana distance coaches, collegiate visits, plenty of running and lots of games and other activities to keep you busy!
Have fun! Improve knowledge of distance running, learn drills that are distance-specific, gain information on goal setting and mental preparation.
Camp is July 28-Aug 1. See attached typical schedule (actual schedule may vary)
Our accommodations are at the dorms at National Park College in Hot Springs. We will have separate boys and girls housing and will have male and female chaperones.
Running will be a mix of well-maintained trails and packed gravel roads along mostly hilly terrain. We will take a short commute to where most of our running will take place in and around Ouachita National Forest. A limited amount of running will be on asphalt roads. You should be prepared to run 20-45 miles for the week, but total mileage will depend on you! The camp will not be a great experience for you if you are not prepared and have not been running leading up to the camp.
Running attire for five days (morning and afternoon workouts), modest swimwear, rain gear for possible rainy runs, at least two pair of comfortable running shoes, water bottle, towel for swimming/bathing, bedding for a twin XL, toilet articles, casual attire for evenings and lectures.
Transportation to and from New Iberia is included in your registration cost.
$475. Coaches with at least 5 athletes participating can attend in a chaperone capacity at no cost, otherwise the camp fee applies (coach participation is pending availability…reach out to Coach Toby).
Camp t-shirt, giveaways from various sponsors, all transportation to and from camp, all housing and meals while at camp and all group activities are included in the cost. You will need to bring money for lunch on the way to camp and lunch on the way home. There is a gift shop at NPC with a variety of items available for purchase.
